Topeka is located along the Kansas River in the northeastern part of Kansas. As the state capital, it is both a government and finance center for the area’s booming agriculture industry. With over 115,000 residents, it is the largest city in Shawnee County. Of those residents, roughly 14,000 are Hispanic or Latino, and 7,000 regularly speak Spanish.

The city is known as “Top City,” and best known for its agricultural significance. However, it is also home to the Brown V. Board of Education National Historic Site and Washburn University. The city also has a reputation for erratic weather; it was named the #2 city in the country for unpredictable weather by Forbes Magazine.

For a great activity to take your child or student to, check out Fiesta Mexicana, an annual event held in downtown Topeka since the 1930’s. In addition to the main parade, carnival rides, live entertainment and food, kids of all ages can enjoy face painting, crafts, games, balloon animals, and the Moon Walk. Shuttles run to downtown from a few locations, making for easy, stress-free night out with the family.

Learning Spanish is a valuable skill and advantage every child should have. With the convenience and effectiveness of today’s resources, it’s never been easier to get your child started.

Tell us what made you take the first step in developing your child’s Spanish skills. What goals do they have for our course? How can we ensure your child reaches all of those goals? Please take a minute of your time to fill out the feedback form located at the right of the page.
